Cookie policy.
How this website uses cookies and similar technologies, and the choices available to you.
Effective date: 20 March 2026 · Last updated: 20 March 2026
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently and to provide information to site operators. This website also uses browser local storage, which serves a similar purpose.
2. Cookies we use
Essential cookies
These are necessary for the website to function. They cannot be switched off.
| Name | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| cookie-consent | Records your cookie preference so we do not ask you again on each visit | Persistent (local storage) | First-party |
Analytics cookies
These help us understand how visitors use the website so we can improve it. They are only set if you consent via the cookie banner by selecting “Accept all” or enabling analytics in your preferences.
Google Analytics 4
We use Google Analytics 4 with Consent Mode v2 to understand how visitors use the website. When you have not consented to analytics cookies, Google Analytics operates in cookieless mode and does not store any cookies. When you consent, the following cookies are set:
| Name | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Distinguishes unique visitors by assigning a randomly generated number as a client identifier | 2 years | Third-party (Google) |
| _ga_V62TE5C3N1 | Maintains session state for Google Analytics 4 | 2 years | Third-party (Google) |
IP addresses are anonymised before processing. Data is processed by Google LLC. For more information, see Google's privacy policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics across all websites by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Microsoft Clarity
We use Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors interact with the website through heatmaps and session recordings. Clarity helps us see where visitors click, how far they scroll, and where they encounter difficulties. Clarity is only activated when you consent to analytics cookies. The following cookies may be set:
| Name | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| _clck | Persists the Clarity user identifier and preferences, unique to that site, so that behaviour on subsequent visits is attributed to the same user | 1 year | Third-party (Microsoft) |
| _clsk | Connects multiple page views by a user into a single Clarity session recording | 1 day | Third-party (Microsoft) |
| CLID | Identifies the first-time Clarity saw this user on any site using Clarity | 1 year | Third-party (Microsoft) |
| ANONCHK | Indicates whether MUID is transferred to ANID, a cookie used for advertising. Clarity does not use ANID and so the value is always 0 | 10 minutes | Third-party (Microsoft) |
| MR | Used to collect information for analytics purposes | 6 months | Third-party (Microsoft) |
| SM | Used in synchronising the MUID across Microsoft domains | Session | Third-party (Microsoft) |
Microsoft Clarity automatically masks sensitive content such as form inputs in session recordings. No passwords, payment details, or other sensitive data are captured. For more information, see Clarity's cookie documentation and Microsoft's privacy statement.
Marketing cookies
This website does not currently use any marketing or advertising cookies. If we introduce them in the future, this policy will be updated and separate consent will be requested.
3. How to manage cookies
You can manage your cookie preferences in several ways:
- Cookie banner: when you first visit the site, a banner gives you the choice to accept all cookies, accept essential cookies only, or manage your preferences. You can change your choice at any time by clearing your browser's local storage for this site.
- Browser settings: most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies through their settings. Note that blocking essential cookies may affect website functionality.
- Google Analytics opt-out: install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on to prevent Google Analytics from collecting data across all websites you visit.
4. Third-party cookies
When you consent to analytics cookies, third-party cookies are set by Google (Google Analytics 4) and Microsoft (Clarity) as described above. These services process data on servers outside the United Kingdom. Both Google and Microsoft participate in data protection frameworks and provide contractual safeguards for international data transfers.
We do not share your cookie data with any other third parties, and we do not use cookies for advertising or remarketing purposes.
